Canton Gallery is an established gallery (10 years as of March, 2006) showing contemporary artists. Our exhibit space is small, roughly 500 square feet, and well lit. Within the gallery is a top quality, conservation frame shop.

We sell only original works and original (non-reproductive) prints. We are interested primarily in representational work in any medium, although we avoid pure realism. Please look at our gallery pages to get an idea as to what we like. Abstraction is something we may be interested in as long as it is, to a degree, representational. We also like regionalism as it is most commonly understood.

Our exhibit space creates some limitations to size. We show work in sizes up to roughly 60” X 78”, but generally mid-size works. Our most comfortable price range is $200 to $3,000.

Submit 10 - 15 images on slides, transparencies, photos, or CD. CD has become our preferred way of viewing artwork. We recognize the difficulty of representing work in reproduction and expect the artist to send us what they feel most accurately shows their work. You must enclose a SASE with sufficient postage for the return of your materials if you want them returned. It will take us 4 - 6 weeks to return materials. Do not send e-mail submissions or attachments under any circumstances without first asking, via e-mail, for our preferences.

We prefer exclusive representation in the Baltimore metropolitan area, generally limited to the particular medium we carry of a particular artist. Our commission is currently 45%. We cover promotional costs, including color postcard mailings, some print advertising, and web related promotion. We pay only return shipping of artwork.

Our main criteria in our search for work to show are excellence in execution and dedication to the form. We not looking to do one time shows, rather we are interested in building a long term relationship both with the artist as well as our customers.

You must include a SASE, with sufficient postage for return of your materials, regardless of how you got them to us – even if you drop them off at the gallery. We will dispose of any materials not submitted with a SASE.
